What is Interactive Poetry?

Interactive poetry involves the coalescing of the poet’s words with the soul and spirit of the audience. The poet speaks and moves and rhymes to the beat of his/her listeners, guiding them toward the message of the poem. The interaction between the poetry and the audience is an emotional one; the listener may laugh, the listener may cry, the listener may moan, the listener may sigh. Inevitably all will flow with the rhythm, radiance, and revelation of the words; movement, active listening, verbal and nonverbal interpolations … all requisites.

Interactive poetry allows the members of the audience to look inwardly at themselves. Opportunities arise for exploring one’s feelings and emotions, and acting on them in a positive way. Be it the release of happy tears when relating to the poem Friends Until The End, or the sharing of one’s pain as audience members relate to the poem, No Guns Allowed… Interactive Poetry

“keeps it real”!

During an Interactive Poetry session, children and adults alike will experience…

Reading and reciting
Movement that’s inviting
Listening and learning
Speaking and yearning… for more!
